San Antonio 2011 - Part 1

Ever since I was about seven years old (maybe younger) I've heard Jenna speak of the wonderful family vacations they would take to San Antonio. Jenna would tell me about staying in the Marriot hotel, the riverwalk, Dirty Nellies, La Valita, and many more San Antonio-isms I was unfamiliar with. Austin and I decided to take a vacation this summer, and thought San Antonio would be a good choice. So, we crashed the Williams family vacation! And, oh, boy. What a vacation, too. These people have this trip down to the science. It was fun to go and be a part of the many year traditions. This was such an eventful trip, that the 500+ pictures I took, are going to have to down as Part 1 and Part 2 in blog form. There was just too many things to talk about in one post! So, here is Part 1 of the San Antonio Trip 2011.

The trip kicks-off at George's Bar and Restaurant in Waco. I've heard of George's (hence all the Pat Green songs), but never actually been there myself. It's a neat place!

I loved spending the time with Jenna and Drake (and the others, too) but since Jenna lives so far, we never get to hang out with our babies!

AB didn't enjoy it so much at first...the tables were a little high for her highchair. We were cracking up!

I couldn't pass up the famous, "Big O" beer...couldn't finish it, but at least I had the experience. Jenna helped a little!

After George's, we parted ways for the day/night. The Williams went on to Lindy's in Roundrock to stay the night there. We headed to Great Gran's. We dropped Nana off and spent the night there. I LOVE it at Gran's. I think AB did, too. She loved the backyard (not too fond of the pool), and Gran's statue of Bob. This was fascinating to her.

We hugged Gran and Nana, "bye-bye" and headed off for San Antone!

We stayed at the "historic" Menger hotel. Seriously, a ton of history there. It's a very old hotel and fascinating stories to go with it. We had one of the older rooms, but I really liked it because we had a view of the Alamo. AB was crazy about the window and the view. I think she could've spent the whole vacation just staring out that window.

After we settled in, we headed down to Jenna and Dean's room before going to the pool. They had joining rooms with Jeannie, Larry, Erica and Christian that overlooked the pool. So much fun! Drake and AB enjoyed the view!

Pool time! AB wasn't too sure about it at first. Daddy had to coax her into getting in, but as soon as she did she enjoyed it. She thought it was really fun when Daddy busted out the water guns.

It was rather exhausting chasing a one and two year old around a pool. You can't just let them run off...there's open water there! So, Dean (and his engineering self) set up a play pen, of sorts, out of chairs to keep the kids contained.

After the pool, we got dressed for dinner that night, and ready to hit up the town. The Menger is a perfect place to stay because it's in the middle of everything! We were in walking distance of the riverwalk, so we put the kids in the strollers and headed that way. Unfortunately, the riverwalk has stairs, so the daddies ended up carrying the strollers up and down the stairs, but hey, the kids didn't mind.

Some of my favorite pictures were of Jenna and AB together! LOVE it!

When we finally found a place that could seat 20 people, we were all settled and had a fun night of eating Mexican food on the riverwalk.

AB and "Uncle" Wayne have such a sweet little friendship.

Almost as soon as we sat down, Drake had to go into "time out." Cracked me up!

Austin got an idea to buy all the guys (including Larry) a shot. If you don't know Larry - he's a beer man. He thought about it. Hard. But decided to pass it up. It was passed on down to his brother, Terry.

Who had no problems taking it.

Later on back at the hotel, we bathed the kids, put them in the pack and play and let them wind down. We tried to let them sleep together, but Drake kept stepping on AB's head...lol. We brought AB down to their room in her pack and play (it wasn't a real short trek, either). So, while we hung out on the balcony, the kids slept. It was so sweet.

When it was finally time to go to bed, Dean and Austin kept AB asleep and carried the princess in her chariot back to our room. Seriously, she stayed asleep the whole time. Thank goodness for loving daddies.

Stay tuned for part 2...the rest of the trip! Lots more fun to come!

First Trip to Build-A-Bear!

AB had a gift card to go to Build-A-Bear from her last birthday, so we thought she was old enough to understand and build her own bear now.

Austin and I were cracking up because we gave her three options of which bear to choose. She decided she'd just choose all three!!! She was so excited, though!

It was a tough decision (you can see from the pictures), but we finally narrowed it down to one. It was very, "Annabelle" we thought.

We took it to put a heart inside and when you press the hand it says, "I love you!"

I love how involved they let the kids be in the actual building process. AB was very into it (so was Daddy, too!)

We then let her pick out an outfit (shoes included!) for her new bear. She was adamant on the outfit she wanted. It was a tutu with fancy shoes. She helped me dress it. So cute!

She was very proud of her bear, which with Daddy's help, we named Annabear. Very cute, Daddy! AB held tightly to Annabear the whole way home!

Getting sleepy cuddling up to Annabear.

And she's out. That building a bear process can be very tiring!

Remembering

Today, I am remembering this precious gift.

I unfortunately did not get to meet this sweet gift here on earth. However, when I get to Heaven will I be in for a wonderful treat (as if I wasn't already!). This sweet baby was taken from us too soon and we were never blessed with his/her presence.

Today, July 6, 2011, I was supposed to meet my sweet baby. Annabelle was going to be a big sister for the first time, and Austin and I were going to be parents for the second time. It just wasn't in the plan. Over the last nine months I've thought of this little one and it's short time in my belly, and wished so badly that I could hold him/her in my arms. I will just have to wait a bit longer before I can do that one day. Until then, we won't forget this sweet angel.

Mommy, Daddy and Big Sister love you!

Happy Father's Day 2011!

This Father's Day was super fun because AB was able to actually tell Daddy, "Happy Father's Day" this year. She's been going to  Mother's Day Out a couple of days a week this summer and today she made Daddy a very special gift...

...her sweet little hand print on a tile for Daddy. I love this because Mother's Day always falls during the school year and mommies always get a gift from school. I loved that AB was in such a wonderful class this summer that she could make a present for Daddy. We love you, Daddy! You are absolutely the best Daddy (and Husband) any two girls could ask for!

21 Months Old

Happy 21 Months, Miss AB!

It's crazy how much of a little adult you are. How did we get here? And so soon! Funny story - the other day you were in the bathtub and you were going on and on about something, and rambling in your language, that Daddy and I can understand about half of. You just seemed so grown up. So, I was looking at you, and more to myself than you, I said, "Who are you?" You stopped. Gave me a very puzzled look and with your classic Annabelle "look" said, "Anbelle" (which is what you call yourself). Translation: "I'm Annabelle, Mommy. Duh!" I was rolling! You are so funny!

Not only are you hilarious, but also very affectionate. You love giving hugs, kisses and pats. You often run up and hug Mommy and Daddy's leg, and say, "I yuv you!" Melts our hearts. Just last night we went over to Nick and Kelly's so you could meet Alex for the first time. I was hesitant to let you hold him, but Aunt Kelly said it was ok. You were a little rough, but only because you wanted to give that four week old baby a big hug. And you did. And he screamed his head off. It's ok. It was very sweet. We just need to work on hugging a little more gently before you have a baby brother or sister.

You have some of the sweetest facial expressions. You also have some of the most "diva" facial expressions as well. One of my favorites, is the eye rolling when you're talking in conversation. You've been rolling your eyes since you were ten months old. It's funny - if you're not in trouble that is. I could stare at your sweet face all day, though.

Probably the sweetest thing you've done over the last month or so is learned to pray to God. You now request to do so before bed time. Daddy always prays over you before you go to bed at night, but recently you've taken an interest in it. We let you pray, first, and then Daddy. We love listening to you say, "Dear God" and "I love you, Amen." I always think that is the best part to God. I know He waits for your prayers. Music to his ears.

These last few months have been so full of new things you do and things you say. I'm keeping a record of them on the calendar. Each day when you do or say something new, I write it down.

Some of my favorite things you've said/done:

Any time you think they're is something wrong with me, you look at me (and sometimes pat me) and say, "Mommy, you ok?"

If Mommy and Daddy are lying down and we even look like we're going to sleep, you stop it by patting us and saying, "Ake up!"

You've started taking Daddy's hand, putting it next to your cheek and saying, "I yuv you, Daddy."

If you accidentally (or purposefully) hit, push, you immediately realize your wrong doing and say, "Sawy."

If you happen to make a bodily noise (heehee), you look around to see who heard, and say, " 'Cuse me!"

Your newest thing as of this week. If it's time to do something you don't want to do, you say, "No not yet!"

Some of our not so favorite things you say or do (even though we think everything you do is ADORABLE):

Your most recent "defiant" saying, "Stop it!" You say this quite frequently, and you visit time out quite frequently.

"No! I don't want to!" We hear this a lot.

And my least favorite, and least proud Mommy moment...you've been telling us to " 'Ut up." This translate to "shut up." This is my fault. I tell Kemah this a lot, because she's a very annoying animal. Apparently, you've been listening. We're trying to teach you that Mommy was wrong for saying this and it isn't a good thing to say. It hasn't sunk in yet.
You're not very good at sharing, yet. You tend to get a little aggressive with Emme at Andrea's house. This breaks Mommy's (teacher) heart. I want you to be fair and gentle. I know you are two and you'll grow out of it, I hope, but it still makes me sad to hear these things.

You are buckets of fun, AB! Mommy loves taking you places. Speaking of taking you places. My Mother's Day present was a new car. My Mommy car. To tote you around in. I think you like it, and notice that it's different. My sure notices a difference! GG was sweet to let me have her car to drive around for two years, but I needed something different. Buicks aren't Mommy's style.

Thank you, AB, for being you and for being such a wonderful blessing to Mommy and Daddy. God's love shows through you everyday and I know you're going to grow up to do great things. I can't believe how much you've grown already. I can't believe my next tri-monthly post will be when you are TWO YEARS OLD! What is this madness and where has the time gone? I can't wait to start planning your party. I already have the theme picked out and it's currently your FAVORITE thing on television.

I love you, sweet angel. Happy 21 Months!

Love,

Mommy
